Mullenix family responds to article

Subhead

To the editor,

We are writing this letter in response to an article that was published on May 5, 2021 regarding a recent court case our father, Carl Mullenix, was involved in. Our family would have had no problem with an article being published with the outcome of the case. We expected that. What we didn’t expect were specific details regarding his health to be revealed on the front page of the local newspaper, which to be quite honest our family considers a HIPAA violation and we are looking into the legality of this further.

We as a family have never taken this accident lightly. What happened that day was a very tragic, unfortunate accident. It has and always will be on all of our minds on a daily basis. We will never forget it or be the same again.

However, it is very unfortunate that some of the facts that were released to the media were never reported. Reporting a portion of the facts only served to aggravate the public’s response. There were multiple factors that were never addressed by the media that directly contributed to the accident. For example, the weather, road conditions, state-wide dense fog advisory that had been issued, and no school delay in this school district.

At this time, our family’s wish is that the community, along with both families, heal as much as possible. We acknowledge this tragedy will forever be a part of our community and both families. We ask our father be treated with dignity and respect as he has always been an active member of this community for over 60 years. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Carla Mullenix, Lisa Rogers, and Jennifer Mullenix
