REACH Waushara Wellness Tips

The start of a new year always comes with new resolutions: 33 percent of New Year’s Resolutions are to lose weight and 15 percent are to start an exercise program. Exercising regularly is one of the best things you can do for your health. Exercise can improve mental function, reduce risk of chronic disease, and help you lose weight.

Soon after you start exercising, you will begin to see and feel the results that physical exercise can have on your body and your mind. However, sticking to a program and working exercise into your schedule takes a lot of commitment and determination. Here are a few tips and ideas to help you pick a plan and stick to it.

Check your health: Get a check-up and talk with your physician about your desire to start an exercise program. This could detect any health problems or see if you would have any limitations.

Choose something you enjoy: You are more likely to stay with it if it is exercise you like and enjoy. There are many options to choose from, such as Zumba, weight lifting, boot camps, running, Yoga, walking, and group classes.

Make a plan: Make sure your plan includes realistic goals and easy small steps to start out with. This way you will see results and have success, which in turn will keep you motivated.

Schedule it: It is easier to stick to a plan if you schedule exercise into your weekly routine. Pack your gym bag the night before, lay out your workout clothes, plan to meet a friend at the gym.

Starting a new exercise routine can be challenging however, following some of these tips can help you make it a priority in your life. Also, remember to stay hydrated and dial in good nutrition.
