Peebles selected for WSMA Middle Level State Honors project

Subhead

Grace Peebles, a freshman at Westfield Area High School, has been selected for the 2020 WSMA Middle Level State Honors Project. WSMA receives 1,100 submissions per year, and only accepts about 311 students, so acceptance is something to commend.

To qualify for this ensemble, Grace had to prepare the following skills last spring during her eighth grade year: sight-reading, vocal range testing, as well as a performance of a piece off of the WSMA solo/ensemble list. For her piece, Grace had chosen to sing “Sebben Crudele” by Antonio Caldara, a canzonetta (short, light vocal piece) performed in Italian. Due to the pandemic shutting down schools, Grace had to attend video voice lessons with her director, as well as submit a video audition to be considered for acceptance.

Grace will rehearse with the virtual ensemble on Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31, and created a virtual concert recording with the ensemble that will be available to the public shortly on the WSMA website.

Ms. Tibbits and Mrs. Temanson want to commend Grace for her tenacity, willingness to learn and commitment to her musicianship during this pandemic. Westfield commends Grace on this incredible achievement; Westfield is proud of their student.
