Nursing Assistant – Class #23458 September 20 – December 13, Dates and Times Vary Prepares learners for entry-level employment as assistants to a licensed nurse. During the 120-hour, Wisconsin Department of Health Services approved program, students will be required to demonstrate the following skills: communication, basic nursing assistant and personal care skills, attention to client rights; and care of clients with dementia. Upon successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the Wisconsin Nursing Assistant competency evaluation for employment in nursing homes, hospitals, home health agencies, hospices, CBRF’s, assisted living centers, and homes for the developmentally disabled. Medical Assistant Program FVTC is offering Medical Assistant courses to help get you started in the medical field – contact us to learn more about this program and what courses are available. Classes start in August. Written Communications – Class #21867 Tuesdays, August 22 - December 12, 5-8 p.m. Teaches the writing process including prewriting, drafting, and revising. Students analyze audience and purpose while researching and organizing ideas. Students will also format and design documents based on subject matter and content. Class assignments involve giving oral presentations and using computers. GMAW Techniques 1 – Class #22822 Monday – Thursday, August 21 – October 18, 12:30 – 2:20 p.m. Demonstrates welding on steel sheet metals and plates. Emphasis is placed on axial spray, pulse spray and short circuit mode of transfer. Upon completion, students will be able to weld in all positions, read basic weld symbols, and understand written welding procedures. Weld Symbols – Class #22824 Monday – Wednesday, August 21 – October 18, 2:30 PM – 3:20 PM Teaches students to interpret detailed weld symbols using the American Welding Society standard. GTAW Techniques – Class #22823 Monday – Thursday, October 23 – December 13, 12:30 – 2:20 p.m. A study and operation of primarily gus tungsten arc welding on some mild steel, with most of the work on stainless steel and aluminum. Students will learn about the different types of electrodes and shielding gases used in these processes. Students will be able to weld in all positions, read some basic weld symbols, and have a basic understanding of written welding procedures. Weld Print Reading – Class #22825 Monday – Wednesday, October 23 – December 13, 2:30 – 3:20 p.m. Provides practice in reading shop drawings. Topics include orthographic projection, auxiliary views, revolved sections, surface and centerline relationships, isometric drawings, scale drawing and tolerances. *Take all four welding classes + Welding/Metal Fab Intro & Safety (offered during January 2024 Winterim, for one evening a week for three weeks) and you can earn your GMAW Welder Basic and Welding Fundamentals Certificates in just one semester + winterim. CPR – Heartsaver AED and First Aid Class #21990 Tuesday, August 29, 5–10 p.m. Class #21993 Tuesday, October 17, 5– 10 p.m. Teaches and evaluates CPR/AED, rescue breathing, relief of choking and basic first aid for an adult until an ambulance arrives. Students receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/First Aid e-Card with two-year certification. First Aid Seminar Class #21991 Tuesday, August 29, 5–8 p.m. Class #21994 Tuesday, October 17, 5–8 p.m. Presents and evaluates basic first aid skills necessary to care for the ill and injured until medical help arrives. This course is designed for the layperson. Students receive an American Heart Association First Aid card with two-year certification. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider & Update CPR Class #21987 Tuesday, August 22, 5–9:30 p.m. Class #21988 Tuesday, October 10, 5–9:30 p.m. Class #21989 Saturday, November 11, 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Teaches and evaluates two-rescuer CPR, one-rescuer CPR, obstructed airway technique for the adult/child/infant, adult/child Automated External Defibrillator (AED), pocket mask, and Bag Valve mask. Students receive an American Heart Association Healthcare CPR card with two-year certification. Home Alone Babysitting Safety – Class #21992 Saturday, September 16, 8 a.m.– 4 p.m. Teaches the babysitter how to deal with crying, tantrums, bedtime issues, providing a safe environment, and first-aid emergencies. Infant/child CPR and choking are also taught. Students receive a certificate of completion. Quilting Techniques – Class #22945 Mondays, October 2 – October 9, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Focuses on the basic techniques for designing and creating quilts for wall hangings, bed coverings, clothing, and home decorating. Students will learn how to read quilt patterns, measure, piece, and machine sew a quilt. Specific techniques for enhancing the quality of your quilt are included. Painting, Watercolor Lab (15 Hours) – Class #21986 Tuesday, October 3, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and Thursday, October 12, 9 a.m.– Noon Focuses on the basic elements and techniques of watercolor painting. After introduction and practice, students will be able to work on individual projects with the instructor’s assistance and guidance. FREE Career Development Workshop – Class #22527 Wednesdays, October 11 – October 25, 1–3 p.m. This six-hour career workshop facilitates planning toward a new career by reviewing your skills, values, and interests, while exploring different occupations. Each student will have the option to schedule a one-on-one appointment with the instructor as part of the workshop. Attendance at all workshop sessions is required.
