Tom Rheinheimer awarded WMEA Distinguished Administrator Award

On Oct. 8, the Wautoma Area School District Board of Education found out that Tom Rheinheimer had been nominated and had won the WMEA Distinguished Administrator Award. The staff in the district nominated Tom based on his positive leadership and the fact that the music program is well funded. Tom will receive his award at a State convention later this month.

A presentation on ACT Aspire was done at the meeting. The ACT Aspire is taken by all 9th and 10th grade students in Spring. The test includes English, Reading, Math, and Science. This doesn’t go on the School’s report card, but it is expected to be a growth score in a few years.

A Costa Rice trip presentation was conducted by one of the staff members from the company that would be planning the trip. The trip would be designed so that each student has personalized attention. There are five programs and two language study programs for students to take. At least 12 students would have to attend to keep the price down. Later in the meeting, the Board approved the 2019-20 Costa Rice trip for first consideration.

Representatives from the Student Council were present and updated the Board on the positive response they got to the Homecoming theme this year. They said that from now on they are going to unify the theme across the district so every school feels included. Homecoming attendance went down, which could be due to illness. As well, some parents were upset that the Court announcements were so late, so they will be pushing that back an hour next year. The Council is debating having a Winter dance, but they won’t finalize anything until they look at the budget and see what the students think.

Resignations and new hires were approved.

The Board approved the 2018-19 fieldtrips that include Oshkosh-On the Water Wrestling Tournament, WIAA State Wrestling Tournament, and Cheer Team State Competition. The Choir Trip to Minneapolis, MN for first consideration, FBLA Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL, for second consideration, and Physics Day at Six Flags Great America in Chicago, IL, for first consideration were all approved. Lastly, all the fundraisers for the school district were approved.

There will be a work meeting held on Oct. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wautoma High School Library. The next monthly meeting will be on Nov. 12 at 6:15 p.m. in the Redgranite School Multi-Purpose room.
