Board of Education approves FBLA Fall Leadership Conference fieldtrip
The Board of Education Area School District held a work meeting on Oct. 1.
There was approval from the Board for the FBLA Fall Leadership Conference fieldtrip to Chicago in November. At this conference the students will be taking workshops in job skills, marketing, leadership, bus-iness, and more. Roughly 14-18 people will attend. Two district vans will be used for transportation.
A students who went last year was present to talk about her experience, and said she made friends at the conference that she continues to speak to almost a year later.
The Board approved a raise for the Food service Director.
The Board reviewed policies that have changed in the district, such as the district no longer having to accept students that have been expelled from schools in other states. Before, the district would have to accept them no matter the reason for expulsion.
The Emergency Operation and Safety Response Plan was reviewed and approved for first consideration. This included information such as internal and external places for students to go in case of an emergency.
The Wautoma High School Key Club was approved to run their fundraiser selling nuts, chocolate, and other goodies.
District Administrator Tom Rheinheimer created a Superintendent’s Evaluation. The Board suggested they review different sections of the evaluation every quarter so that Tom can update the Board on what he has accomplished and give proof of those accomplishments.
Tom distributed the Visitor Management System Procedural Guidelines for their new visitor background check. This background check would only impact those visitors that would leave the school office and travel deeper into the school. This topic was to be discussed further at the Oct. 8 meeting.
The next Board meeting will be Monday, Oct. 8 at the Riverview Elementary School Library at 6:15 p.m.
