Wild Rose defeated by Almond-Bancroft 3-2 in regional final
The baseball regional final competition had Wild Rose traveling to Almond on May 31 instead of May 30, because of excessive rain. Five batters got up to the plate in the opening inning for Wild Rose, with 2 getting on base with walks, ending with no score. Almond-Bancroft was shut down altogether in the inning. Wild Rose had bases loaded in the second with 1 out. One batter was hit with a pitch, another reached on an error, and the other on a walk, but there were no runs. Almond-Bancroft was shut down completely. The third inning Cole Ranczyk led off with a single to left field for the Wildcats. Jaylon Zacharias laid down a sacrifice bunt before Travis Jansen knocked Ramczyk in for a 1-0 lead. With 2 outs in the fourth, Tanner Deist ripped out a hit to center for Wild Rose, only to be caught stealing second a short time later. The bottom of the inning worked in favor of Almond-Bancroft, beginning with Derek Baumgartner getting on base with an error. Then, several times the ball was thrown to first to hold Baumgartner on, only to eventually have him advance to second when the ball was overthrown. An intentional walk set the Eagles up even better. On an overthrow to steal at third base, the hosts were allowed to tie the score at 1. Zach Bunders singled, then came Clark with a sacrifice bunt for the go ahead run, 2-1.
