Westfield Pioneer wrestler Ty Monfries placed fourth at the State tournament on Feb. 23-25 at the UW-Madison Kohl Center. He opened the tournament up with a bye in the first round on Feb. 23 to put him into the quarterfinals on Feb. 24. There he pinned Brandon Sommers (Phillips) to put him in the semi-final match that night.

Monfries was pinned in the first period by the #1 seed David Gauderman (Wittenberg-Birnamwood).

Ty came back strong Feb. 25 to pick up a win over Nathan Zarins (Thorp/Owen-Withee) to set up a third place match against Diego Morales (Cedar Grove-Belgium) for the fourth meeting in the last five weeks. Monfries started the match out strong, but Monfries couldn’t keep up with Morales. Monfries was pinned in the third period to bring home fourth place.

Monfries finished his senior season with a 48-10 record.

Lincoln Beyer wrestled Feb. 23 at the WIAA state tournament where he was pinned by Derek Godard (Auburndale) to eliminate him from the tournament. Beyer finished his freshman season with a 33-16 record.
