For the first time in the team’s history, a Wautoma/Wild Rose golfer advanced to the State Golf Tournament. Trey Reilly, a junior on the team, traveled to the Meadow Valley Golf Course in Kohler, June 5-6, for the tournament against 52 individual golfers. Trey enjoyed playing golf with his friend Peter, and was convinced to join the team his freshman year. During his sophomore season his team earned the 2022 SWC conference championship and he was also named as one of the top three golfers in the conference. His work paid off this year again, with the 2023 Wautoma/Wild Rose golf team winning back-to-back conference championships. He was again named in the top three golfers this season, earning first team all-conference honors. The team has placed first at numerous meets this season. Wautoma/Wild Rose golf coach John Eilers is impressed with all of the hard work and practice that Trey has put in throughout his high school career. “He puts his time in, it’s not like his state trip was not deserved.” Eilers has been coaching Trey his entire high school career. Trey was excited to travel to the state tournament. “I played some good golf, but I also played some bad golf,” he says, “but, it was an exciting and fun experience. It was fun to meet a lot of new people.” Trey finished the tournament with a score of 83. His team has enjoyed a lot of quality time together. “One of my favorite memories from this year was traveling to Westfield, and Coach Eilers was unsure of where to go,” he laughed. Trey will be a senior this upcoming school year, and plans to continue playing football and golf.
