Wautoma/Wild Rose’s Boy Harriers win third SCC Cross Country Championship in a row

On Oct. 19, the Wautoma/Wild Rose Cross Boys Cross Country Team defended its 2017 and 2018 titles by running to victory at the 2019 South Central Conference Cross Country Championships held at Christmas Mountain in Wisconsin Dells. Team scores were Wautoma/Wild Rose 26, Wisconsin Dells 69, Mauston 71, Nekoosa/Port Edwards 110, Adams-Friendship 132, and Westfield 138. Kordell Woyak led the Hornet/Wildcat guys with a second place finish with teammates Aiden Doherty fourth, Lance Erdman fifth, Ashton Schwartzman sixth, Creedon Abraham ninth, Caleb Williams 12th, Matthew Kapral 12th, and Garrij Kjentvet 15th.  Woyak, Doherty, Erdman and Schwartzman earned All-South Central Conference First Team Honors with their placings. Abraham, Williams, and Kapral earned All-South Central Conference Second Team Honors.

The Wautoma/Wild Rose Boys were also victorious in the Junior Varsity Race, scoring 25 points. Cavan Williams led the Junior Varsity with a first place finish with Joey Button second, Elijah Williams fifth, James Barbarich 6th, Aaron Daye 13th, Ashton Abraham 15th, Ethan Kubasta 16th, and Mason Heuer 17th.

 

The Hornet/Wildcat Girl Harriers finished second at the SCC Championships. Wisconsin Dells won the team title with 24 points followed by Wautoma/Wild Rose with 50 points, Mauston 65, Westfield 132, Adams-Friendship 135, and Nekoosa/Port Edwards 145.  For the Hornet/Wildcat girls, Laney Havlovitz finished third, Madylyn Woyak sixth, Amber Babcock 11th, Megan Miller 14th, MacKenzie Caves 16th, Teagan Reitz 17th, Carley Burt 19th, and Lyndsey Lippert 21st.

Havlovitz and Woyak earned All-SCC First Team Honors with their finishes. Babcock and Miller earned All-SCC Second Team Honors with their finishes. In the Junior Varsity Race the Hornet/Wildcat Girls placed first among the six school field, scoring 26 points.  Lily Erdman was the top Hornet/Wildcat runner with a second place finish. Jaidyn Knueppel finished third, Rachael Strey fourth, Bailey Rheinheimer sixth, Layla Graser 12th, Esther Brooks 14th, Dana Doherty 15th, Torrance Marquez 16th, Kinsey Reynolds 17th, Paige Olson 20th, Ashley Zacharias 22nd, Abby Peterman 23rd, Alexis Dreger 24th, Nina Skweres 28th, and Falyn Krempp 29th.

The next action for the Hornet/Wildcat Harriers will be at the WIAA Sectional Meet, this Friday, Oct. 25, at the Mayville Golf Course in Mayville. The Girls’ Race starts at 4 p.m. followed by the Boys’ Race The top two teams and top five individuals in each division qualify for the WIAA State Cross Country Meet at Wisconsin Rapids, held the following weekend.
