Wautoma wins over Westfield in overtime

The visiting Wautoma Hornets took home a nail biting win, 59-56, in overtime  win against conference rivals, the Westfield Pioneers on Feb. 7.

  The contenders hit the court looking strong ready to control the game. Westfield came out with several 3 pointers from Senior Kashton Kangas. Both teams used their defensive moves effectively as the score remained within 2-4 points of each other for the first 10 minutes with only 1 foul and no time outs, the score was 11-10.

The crowd‘s enthusiasm rose in the fast paced game with many coming off their seats in cheering. Down to the six minute mark in the first half, the score was 14-15.  

The second half brought out both teams focused on the game. Scoring continued to be between 2-6 points. At 4:24 on the clock the score was 43-46. The crowd was roaring by this time as drives and presses were at a furious pace. The game ended 52-52 in regulation going into overtime.

  Wautoma was able to pull off the nailbiter win with a final score of 56-59. Highest scorers were: 20 points Westfield’s Sophomore Samuel Berruecos-Morales and Wautoma’s 19 points from Junior Joseph Ascher.
