Wautoma varsity football team defeats Laconia 34-0 on Aug. 17
The Wautoma football team started the 2018 season by getting on the board first. After two defensive stops by the Hornet defense that allowed only seven first half yards to Laconia, Max Bennett broke free around the left end and dashed into the end zone for a 35-yard touchdown. Damean Netzler added the extra point kick, making it 7 - 0 Hornets.
Three minutes later, Wautoma got back into the end zone as Tegan Sanders capped of a 46-yard drive with a five-yard run through the Laconia defense. Matt Kroll, Max Bennett, and Ryan Lois spearheaded that drive with runs of 20, 10, and eight-yards. Damean Netzler added the extra point to make the halftime score Wautoma 14, Laconia 0.
The third quarter saw the Hornet defense once again stifle Laconia and ride their running game. Ryan Lois pounded the third Wautoma score into the end zone following an amazing 34-yard run.
The Hornets finished the game strong as Matt Kroll scored on his own 35-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to add to the lead.
Wautoma saw their backup players continue to dominate on both sides of the ball with Caleb Koats securing the shutout with a touchdown saving interception and Preston Jaeger finishing the scoring with a tough run, getting into the end zone and making the final score Wautoma 34 and Laconia 0.
Matt Kroll ran the ball 15 times for 105-yards and a touchdown. Max Bennett ran the ball five times for 65-yards and a touchdown. Michael Hernandez ran the ball 3 times for 30 yards. Tegan Sanders ran the ball one time for five-yards and a touchdown. Preston Jaeger ran the ball three times for 71-yards and a touchdown. Chandler Krueger ran the ball two times for 10-yards. Ryan Lois ran the ball 10 times for 75-yards and a touchdown. Ryan completed one pass for 12-yards to Matt Kroll.
Wautoma plays their first home game against Berlin on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.
