Wautoma stumbles in SCC opener on Tuesday, April 10
The visiting Wautoma Hornets fell 14-4 to the Wisconsin Dells in the South Central Conference opener against the Chiefs on April 10.
Wautoma’s bats were flat to start the game and the Chiefs jumped to a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
The Hornets finally found daylight thanks to senior Karley Reetz starting it off with one out in the third inning. Reetz singled, Alyssa Borchardt laid down a bunt single, Avery Lehr singled to load the bases with Brianna Jander ripping a two RBI single. Kenzie Ralls followed her up with an RBI single of her own.
Jander was able to cross home on a steal to make it 4-2. However, the Dells didn’t lay low too long as they tallied four unearned runs in the fourth inning due to a couple Hornet errors to take the 6-4 lead.
The Wautoma offense went dormant while the Chiefs batted through the line up in the fifth bringing five more runs across making it 11-4 while coasting with the victory. Wautoma totaled 6 hits on the night.
