Wautoma Softball team shuts out Chiefs 3-0
The Wautoma softball team pitched in on a 3-0 victory against the guest Wisconsin Dells Chiefs on May 7.
A combination of Bri Handel’s command and control along with stymie defense, helped the cause. Wautoma scored right away as AJ Jander led off with a single and stolen base eventually crossing the plate on a two-out Brooke Blader-Lucht RBI single. The Hornets added another run in the third inning on a Jander walk, Handel fielder’s choice and stolen base, with three walks sprinkled in as Diana Duran found the final RBI free pass.
Wautoma tacked on an insurance run in the seventh inning as Leah Konieczki led off with a single, a couple bunt advancements, and Jander clutching up with a two-out RBI single scoring Konieczki.
The Hornet bats clubbed eight hits with Jander leading the attack going (3x3, BB, SB, run, RBI) along with Handel (2x4, SB, run) and Konieczki (2x3, run). Handel limited the Chiefs’ sticks to two hits, two walks while striking out eight hitters along with some clean defense as she had a complete game win.
The Wautoma Hornet softball team improved to 15-6 overall and 4-4 in SCC play.
