Wautoma pulls off win over Adams-Friendship

The Wautoma Hornets were able to pull off a 75-61 conference win at home against the Adams-Friendship Green Devils on Jan. 31.

The Hornets started off the game, putting 2-points on the board shortly following tipoff. Adams-Friendship’s Zander Klaus was able to sink a 3-pointer to get his team on the board. From there the Green Devils continued to grow to a 5-point lead just a few minutes into the first half. Brett Salm’s 3-pointer gave the Hornets a chance to decrease their opponents lead. The Green Devils continued to carry a 5 to 7-point lead for a majority of the first half.

 

Joseph Ascher was able to give the Hornets a chance for a comeback, with two 3-pointers being able to tie the score at 23 points with only 3 minutes left in the half. Carson Armstrong was added another 3-pointer to the board with only 40 seconds left on the board, giving the Hornets a 31-29 advantage going into the second half.

The Hornets lost their lead going into the second half, with Green Devil defense bringing the ball to their end of the court. The Green Devils were quick to increase their lead to 42-36, but the Hornets did not let this set-back bring their energy down. The Hornets were able to take control of the ball, tying the score at 44 points. Logan Dunn was able to steal the ball for the Hornets, giving the team a chance to score a 2-point lead with 9 minutes left in the game. Wautoma kept up the pace, giving the team their 75-61 conference victory.

Joseph Ascher topped the score board with 28 points, including three 3-pointers and 11 free throws. Ascher recorded 4 rebounds and assists along with 1 block. Carson Armstrong scored 19 points, with four 3-pointers and 3 free throws. Armstrong recorded 5 rebounds and 2 assists and steals. Brett Salm was able to shoot 15 points for the Hornets, including 6 free throws and three 3-pointers. Logan Dunn scored 8 points, Peter Idsvoog 4, and Landon Kalata 1.
