Wautoma High School Softball team wins Regional opener
The Lady Hornets softball team won their Regional game 9-6 versus the Bonduel Bears on May 22 at Bird Creek Park. Wautoma got on the board first scoring two runs in the bottom of the first with Kaisee Conger and Brianna Jander walking with two outs followed with a MacKenzie Ralls RBI single and Jander wild pitch score. Bonduel came back with a run in the second inning making it a 2-1 game. However, the Hornets put a crooked number of three thanks to a Katy Bray walk, Brooke Blader-Lucht double, Avery Lehr one out two run double, and Conger trading places with a RBI double making it 5-1. The Hornets put an additional third inning run on a Bray hit scoring Maddie Peterman. Yet, the Bonduel Bears clawed back scoring two in the fifth to make it 6-3 and shut the Hornet offense down. The Bears would even the score 6-6 in the top of the sixth adding three more runs and stranding bases loaded as Lehr came in to get the much needed out. Wautoma answered the bell with Blader-Lucht leading off with a single, Tori Gonzalez huge RBI double, Lehr single, Jander and Ralls walks while tacking on three to gain a 9-6 lead. Blader-Lucht would begin and end the pitching duties to notch the win. Wautoma totaled 10 hits with four players having multiple hits - Lehr (2x4, 2B, 2 RBI, SB), Conger (2x3, 2B, BB, RBI), Ralls (2x3 RBI, BB) and Blader-Lucht (2x3, 2B, 2 Runs).
