Pioneer wrestlers advanced to sectionals

Westfields Lincoln Beyer won the title of 106 pound Regional Champion and Ty Monfries placed second at 285 pounds following the Feb. 11 Regional wrestling tournament.

Lincoln Beyer had a really good day on the mat this past weekend at regionals bringing home his first regional Championship as a freshman. Beyer will be heading into sectionals with a 31-14 record.

Ty Monfries started the day off strong to make his way into the championship match where he ran into the #1 ranked wrestler in the state at 285 pounds. Monfries took Diego Morales into overtime where he ended up getting pinned. Monfries will be going into sectionals with a 43-7 record.

Monfries and Beyer will be wrestling in the Sectional tournament at Dodgeland on Feb. 18. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m.

The rest of the Pioneers had a good day wrestling but fell short to some great competition. The Westfield results are as follows:

106 lbs: Lincoln Beyer placed first.

113 lbs: Hunter Peschel placed sixth.

285 lbs: Ty Monfries placed second.
