Ladycats scratch up 64-14 regional win

The Wild Rose Ladycats had no trouble in scratching up a 64-14 win over Stockbridge on a snowy night for girls’ regional basketball competition on Feb. 21.

Wild Rose took charge from the get-go with six players contributing to the first half scoring. Cali Havlovitz and Clare Williams led the way with 15 points each, with Williams hitting three 3-point shots to start off her scoring. Laney Havlovitz kept right up with them with 14 points. Emica Marquez chimed in with 5 points, including a 3, and Mya Bahr 4, hitting 2 of 2 free throws.

The hosts were to lead 54-1 at halftime, with Bella Bunnell scoring the lone point for the visitors.

Wild Rose committed 6 fouls and Stockbridge 4 in the first half.

The game was to move right along as all the Ladycats, and nearly all of the visitors saw playing time. Wild Rose toned down its’ scoring in the second half, and Stockbridge picked up some scoring. L. Havlovitz added 8 points to her total for the hosts, while Laurynn Ruppenthal gathered 6 points, going 2-2 at the free throw line, and Julia Ruppenthal a 3-pointer for the visitors. 

Stockbridge had commit-ted 7 fouls and Wild Rose 6 in the second half of play, but Wild Rose won out overall 64-14 when the buzzer sounded.

Wild Rose’s six scorers were sparked in good part by Laney Havlovitz’s 22 points. Clare Williams and Cali Havlovitz stayed with their 15 point each, with Williams having three 3-pointers. Mya Bahr’s 6 points included 2 of 2 free throws, while Emica Marquez’s 5 points still included a 3-pointer.

The hosts recorded four 3-point goals, 4 of 10 free throws, and 12 fouls.

Stockbridge’s four scorers were led by Laurynn Ruppenthal’s 6 points, going 2-4 at the free throw line. Julia Ruppenthal chipped in a 3-pointer, and Bella Bunnell 2 of 4 free throws.

The visitors recorded 5 of 10 free throws, one 3-point goal, and 11 fouls.
