Lady Pioneers take home a win over the Lady Hornets

The Wautoma Lady Hornets and the Westfield Lady Pioneers were face to face in a fast paced game at Wautoma High School on Jan. 5. Despite the Lady Hornets efforts, Westfield was able to take home a 48-35 victory.

Westfield was able to take an early lead in the first half of the game. With 8:07 on the clock, the Lady Pioneers were ahead by 10 points. Alayna Panich scored a 3-pointer, getting the Lady Hornets on the board, 3-10. Carly Drew was able to shoot a 3-pointer for her team as well, giving the Lady Pioneers nearly a 10-point lead. Westfield offense got the ball moving, with the team getting to score with multiple 2-point layups.

The Lady Hornets were able to pick up their pace in the second half of the game, with Panich shooting a 3-pointer to help close the gap 37-17. Steals from Brianna Buechner and Montana Groskreutz kept the ball on Wautoma’s side of the court, giving the team the opportunity to catch up to Westfield. Although the Lady Hornets put in their best efforts, the Lady Pioneers were able to score a 48-35 victory.
