Almond-Bancroft’s Elijah Kollock scores for the Eagles on March 7 during a playoff loss against Columbus Catholic at Wausau East.

Eagles lose Sectional game against Columbus Catholic

The Almond-Bancroft Eagles had a great season this year. With 22 wins and only 4 losses in the regular season, they were definitely a team to be proud of. After their win against Wild Rose on March 2, thus giving them the title of WIAA Regional Champions for Division 5, the Eagles were flying high, ready to take on their next opponent. Unfortunately, Columbus Catholic was more prepared than the Eagles, and Almond-Bancroft lost to them on March 7.

In the first half of the game, Almond-Bancroft was only down by 6 points, 24-18. The Eagles attempted to close this gap, but it only grew in Columbus Catholic’s favor in the second half. Almond-Bancroft managed to score an additional 24 points, while Columbus Catholic scored an additional 39 points. The Eagles walked away with a loss, 63-42.

Cade Lamb scored 22 points, Zach Bunders scored 9 points, Noah Kollock 6 points, Dylan Omernick and Elijah Kollock 2 points each, and Edward Pena 1 point.

Though the Eagles ended their season, they should be proud they made it so far. They were awarded the 2019 Regional Champion Boys Basketball Division 5 plaque for their efforts, and for that the community is proud of the teams’ hard work, commitment, and determination.
