PETER PAUL SOUDER
Peter Paul Souder, age 70 of rural Redgranite, died peacefully Aug. 8 at the Wild Rose Manor, where he had been residing since mid-May, while battling bone cancer.
Pete was born April 3, 1948 at the Berlin Memorial Hospital; the fourth child of James and Catherine (Shrock) Souder.
At Wautoma High School he was involved in track, Latin Club, and was stage crew manager for the school plays. He graduated in 1966. He furthered his education at Oshkosh Technical School (now Fox Valley). He graduated with an Associate Degree in Mechanical Design in 1968.
He began his career as a design draftsman for McQuay-Perfex in Berlin. He enjoyed his years there, especially traveling to Bath Iron Works in Maine to work on the SS Oliver H. Perry guided missile frigate. After the Engineering Department closed at McQuay-Perfex, Pete went to work for his brother, Leo, at MPB Builders in Ripon. There he worked in the Fabrication Shop and as a Material Listing Coordinator until late 2017 when his health declined.
In his younger years, Pete was an altar server along with his brothers at St. James Catholic Church in Neshkoro. He also served as a lector at St. James in his 20’s.
Pete was truly a Good Samaritan. If a friend, neighbor, or relative needed help, Pete was there. Being a well-read man, (and owning an extensive book collection) it seems he knew something about everything. He hated to see anything go to waste. When the family barn needed to come down, he made sure the beams and barn boards went to new building projects. He recycled scrap pieces of lumber from MPB Builders into boxes of all sizes that he gifted to people. He lived his entire life as a bachelor on the family farm often assisting his mother (after James passed away) with her gardening and raising of chickens.
Pete’s many interests included: building projects, collecting farming tools, blacksmithing, reading, electrical wiring, family gatherings, pull tabs, bingo, and especially visiting friends at local taverns while having his diet Pepsi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Raymond Souder, a brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Helen Souder, and a special nephew, Mike Homier.
Survivors include: his brother and sisters, Leo (Judy) Souder of Ripon, Mary (Dave) Homier and Christine (John) Gies both of Redgranite, and Annamae (Terry) Meigher of Jefferson, GA; his nieces and nephews: Cathy Sondalle, Mark and Scott Souder, Amy Reinsbach, Maria McNamee, Sara Bruss, Tony Souder, Jr., Damian and Jacob Gies, and all their families, many other relatives, and close friends.
Funeral Services for Peter Paul Souder will be held Friday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. at St. James Place, Neshkoro, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Father Dale Grubba. Relatives and friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Friday only prior to the time of the Mass at St. James Place. (St. James Place is located on Highway 73, just North of St. James Catholic Church, Neshkoro.) Peter will be laid to rest on the family plot in St. James Parish Cemetery in Neshkoro.
