BETTY JEAN KOSTRO

Betty Jean Kostro (nee Johnson), age 72 of rural Wautoma (Town of Mount Morris), passed away peacefully July 21 evening at Patriot Place in Berlin, where she had been residing. Betty was surrounded by the love of her family. Betty was born February 24, 1946 in Tacoma, WA, a daughter of Harold and Jean “Betty” E. Smith Johnson. Betty and her parents moved to Berlin when she was young. She lived in Berlin and was a 1964 Graduate of the Berlin High School. On March 29, 1969 Betty married Casimir V. “Casey” Kostro at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Redgranite. Casey preceded Betty in death on October 14, 2008 following 39 years of marriage. Betty had been employed at the Union State Bank in Redgranite, its successors in Redgranite and Wautoma, and at the Farmers State Bank in Waupaca until her retirement. She had been a teller and had also trained new bank employees. Betty was a faithful, active member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Redgranite, the C.C.W. (Confraternity of Christian Women), formerly the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, and the Sunday Choir of the Church. Betty was also a member of the Friends of the Redgranite Public Library, and the Master Gardeners’ Club of Wautoma. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, crocheting, read-ing, and doing crossword puzzles. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, enjoyed fantasy football, was a pet lover, and enjoyed bird watching and the outdoors. Survivors include a son, Rick (Judy) Kostro of Rosendale, 2 daughters, Julie Kostro of Oshkosh, and Jenny Kostro of Baraboo, Wisconsin; 3 step-grandchildren, Harley Miskov, Mitch (Jalayne) Miskov, and Kelsey Miskov, and a step-great-grandchild, Eli Miskov; her sisters, Bonnie Johnson of Ft. Worth, TX, and Jacky (Kevin) Herrington of Oklahoma City, OK; brothers-in-law, Mitchell Dziedzic of  IL, and Richard (Kathy) Dziedzic of Kansas City, MO, other relatives and friends, and her canine companion, Teddy, and her feline companion, Misty. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Norma “Jane” Huey and Nancy Thompson, parents-in-law Victor and Mary Kostro, and a sister-in-law, Polly Dziedzic. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated for Betty Friday, July 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Redgranite. St. Mark’s Church is located on Church Street, on the West side of Redgranite, South of Highway 21. Father Jason Blahnik and Deacon Robert Precourt will be the Presiders.  Following the Mass, Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband, Casey in St. Mark’s Parish Cemetery in Redgranite. Relatives and friends may visit with Betty’s family from 9-11 a.m. on Friday, only prior to the Mass at St. Mark’s Church.
