Patterson Memorial Library Board approved the budget for 2019
The Patterson Memorial Library Board approved the budget for 2019 when it met Nov. 26.
It’s the time of year when a lot of organizations look to close out the budget for the present year and set up a budget for a new year.
Something new for the library’s agenda regarded a spending limit threshold increase for the library director. There became a recent need to acquire a new computer, and a special meeting was held. The Board held a discussion about raising the spending threshold to $1,000 as long as the Board President and at least one Library Director is present to co-sign the order.
Library Director Kent Barnard reported on the attendance for the latest release on Jerry Apps’ book Simple Things/Cold as Thunder. There were 44 in attendance for the book talk, signing, and cookies with cider, held Nov. 13.
The annual Christmas Treasure sale held Nov. 17 was a success.
Barnard reported on having met up with the UW-LaCrosse grad students who desire to help construct a gazebo in Roberts Park.
Barnard also spoke on behalf of Tara Anderson who had the idea of having an ice skating rink in the village, and how she’s been speaking to village residents and the village board about it. With there being vacant land belonging to the library at the intersection of Front Street, Division Street, and Wisconsin Avenue, there was a thought to have the rink there where the village piles snow anyway. Light would need to be added and a warming house of some sort would need to be established. The library Board expressed interest in the rink, but needs more information.
The thermostats, which were ordered, for the library and community center have arrived and are waiting to be installed.
It was mentioned that the movie “The Incredibles 2” will be shown at the library/community center in December.
The library will be closing at 2 pm on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas Day and New Years’ Day.
The Library Director’s evaluation was tabled until the December 17 board meeting.
