Redgranite approves 2019 budgets

At a public hearing on Dec. 11, the Redgranite Village Board adopted the 2019 general fund budget of $772,019.25, a sewer budget of $530,774.76, and a water budget of $212,988.26.  The board also approved a tax levy of $293,180.84.

 

During the regular Redgranite Village Board meeting, following the public hearing, owner of The Rock Coffee House, Pat LaSage, addressed the board to discuss his proposed project to construct a waterfall feature by the quarry.

He told the board that the average person driving through Redgranite doesn’t know the quarry exists and that people who patronize his coffee house are amazed at the beauty of the quarry area.

LaSage said he’d like to build a waterfall feature similar to the one in Montello to draw people to Redgranite and the quarry. He also discussed the need for restrooms and also said he would like to see an ice skating rink at the quarry, with seating and warming firepits.

LaSage is working on a written plan and drawing, and he hopes to present it to the board at the January meeting. He also said he hopes to have the waterfall feature completed by June.

The Board approved a pay request for August Winters & Sons for $168,758 for work through November. They also approved change orders for one or two heater units for the wellhouse and change orders for extra mobilization and temporary power wiring.

The 2019 wages for village employees was approved.

The Board approved hiring a financial planner on an as-needed basis.

A promotion of Police Officer Josh Kriegel to sergeant was approved by the Board.

The purchase of a copy machine and services contract for the police department for a cost of $1,879 was approved.

The Board scheduled: (1) a special board meeting for Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 6: p.m. at the municipal building. The special meeting was scheduled to further discuss 2019 projects, prioritize future projects, and discuss funding for them (2) the caucus meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 6:45 p.m., and (3) a public hearing for sewer rate increase for Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 6:45 p.m.

 

The next regular Red-granite Village Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.
