Wautoma Common Council approves 2019 budget and discusses proposed 2019 street improvements

The Wautoma Common Council unanimously ap-proved the $1,992,324 budget at their regular monthly meeting held on Nov. 12 at Wautoma City Hall following the Public Hearing.  Tommy Bohler, City Administer/Clerk/Treasurer, explained the budget and divided it into three categories, General Fund, Business Fund (includes sewer and water utilities), and Other Funds (including library, WWII, etc.).  There were no corrections or additions to the budget.

 

Todd Trader, MSA, explained the proposed 2019 Street Improvements including W. River Street and improvements to Green Meadow, Valley View, and Sandcrest Streets.

MSA has completed the field topographic survey work for the projects and explained for the Green Meadow, etc. project a storm sewer easement will be necessary for adjacent property.  The city will work with the landowner(s) before the next meeting.

A discussion on the Wautoma Mill Pond was also held because a couple of landowners near the pond have addressed the city to have the millpond drawn down due to the high water table caused by the heavy rainfall late this summer and into fall.   Bohler will contact the land owners and the concern will be addressed at the December meeting.

In the administrators report, Bohler said the city appreciated the $17,500 donation from the Wautoma Kiwanis for the Basketball Court project at Bird Creek Park.  He added that due to the donation the cost to the city was only $17,500.

In other business the council approved operator licenses for Tanya Larsen, StoneRidge and Jillian Olander, Grimm’s.  The council also approved Julie Vargas and Cindy Pomplun as election officials.

Due to the problems of hiring and retaining a part-time person for the police force, the council approved a wage increase to $18 per hour pending completion of Field Officer training and hours works.

 

The next regular meeting of the Wautoma Common Council will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10 at Wautoma City Hall.
