A mass of ducks were reaching the bridge behind the Mt. Morris Mill Coffee Shop during the Fourth of July Duck Race.

Mt. Morris holds Annual Duck Race

Mt. Morris held its Annual Duck Race on July 4. The duck race is usually held in conjunction with the Fourth of July festivities, with people buying chances on numbered toy ducks. These toy ducks get dumped into the rushing water at the dam, where they’ll travel downstream to the finish line. During the race, everyone cheering for their ducks, hoping they’ll be among the top several ducks reaching the finish line ahead of most others. Some got caught up along the way. This year’s first place finisher was Sidney Vanden Eykel with Duck #44. Diane Gilbertson’s #144 duck finished second. The eight third place finishers with Ducks numbered 21, 87,146, 90, 76, 54, 50, and 45 included: Dick Anderson—Wild Rose, Tate Davis, Rich Dittle, Maddie Jozwowski—Waukesha, Matt Lewke—Columbus, George Louthan—Wautoma, Carol and Gary Frank—Mt. Morris, and Kim Brurok. Even the last place finisher got a prize, and that was won by Heidi Splinter and Said with Duck #2.
