Jorgie’s wins Waushara Classic League Modified Softball Tournament

The Waushara Classic League Modified Softball held their annual league tournament on Aug. 25 at Swan Park in Waupaca. After fourteen games were completed, Jorgie’s was crowned the League Tournament Champions for the 2018 season going 4-0 over the weekend. Jorgie’s (Borth) entered the tournament as the #5 seed after compiling a 9-7 record in the twelve-team league which plays on Thursday nights from mid-May-August. Jorgie’s began the day defeating #4 seed Slugger’s (Wild Rose) 18-13 and #1 seed Doug’s (Plover) 6-1 to advance to the “Winner’s Bracket” final.

They continued their successful run that afternoon/evening by defeating #2 seed Chimney Inn (Weyauwega) 11-7 to advance to the championship game, where they would face the very same Chimney Inn team once again.

Jorgie’s jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning and four more in the second inning and never looked back. They led “wire-to-wire” scoring in six out of the seven innings and after Nate Silloway ran in and caught a fly ball to center field, Jorgie’s had secured the championship with a 19-15 victory. Mark Derozier, at 49 years young, threw every single pitch for Jorgie’s, pitching 28 total innings on the day.

This year marked the third time that Jorgie’s has won the Waushara County League Tournament Championship, as they also won it back in 1998 and 2012.
