Mike San Dretto & Thomas Lager speak at meeting
On Sept. 5, the Wautoma Kiwanis Club welcomed Thomas Lager and Mike San Dretto from Trout Unlimited CARES as their guest speakers at the Dinner Meeting held at Silvercryst, Wautoma. Tom explained that Trout Unlimited Central Area Restoration Effort for Sustainability or CARES for short is comprised of four chapters from Fox Valley, Hornberg, Shaw-paca, and Central, WI, which Wautoma is in. Interesting facts Tom told the club were the trout streams in the area are some of the best, with many fishermen coming from other states to fish in Waushara County. These streams have the Brown, Brook, and Rainbow Trout in them. The trout’s favorite food is Mayflies, they live in cold water no higher than 65 degrees in the summer, ground water supplies the cold water to the trout streams, and the trout spawn at the head waters of a stream. One last item Tom told the club about was an upcoming event called Stream and Field Day on Saturday, Sept. 21st at Bird Creek Park, Wautoma, with its very own in-town trout stream. This event is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with many different activities scheduled for children and adults to learn all about the wonderful trout in our streams and their habitat.
