Della Flegner grew up in Waushara County with 11 siblings west of Witter’s Lake. Della worked at the JR Williams Fruit Farm near Montello which was the first irrigated produce farm in Wisconsin. Owners John and Alice traveled to Florida and throughout the US in the camper shown in this picture from 1952. Three of Della’s daughters will be showing quilts at the Happy Camper Quilt Show.

Calico Capers Quilt Guild presents the Happy Camper Quilt Show, in Montello

The Calico Capers Quilt Guild presents the Happy Camper Quilt Show on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. The show will be held at the Montello Community Schools located at 222 Forest Lane in Montello. The building is handicapped accessible. Come admire the quilters work and vote for your favorite top three quilts.

Special Events for the Day will be a Live Auction starting at 10:30 a.m. This will include quilted wall-hangings, placemats, and unique creations by the members of CCQG. To check out the items online go to

At 1 p.m. there will be a Bed Turning as a tribute to long time member Alice Hesse with some of her quilts and their stories being shared.

Additionally, view  a dis-play of Aunt Rosie’s quilts with their accompanying stories.While you’re here, try your hand on one of the antique hand crank sewing machines and learn their history.

Also being held will be a treasure sale with quilting items and finished projects.

Lunch and refreshments will be served from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Once you’ve finished taking in the Happy Camper Quilt Show, make sure to swing by the Buffalo Lake Resort, located at 555 Lake Avenue west of Montello for the Midwest Vintage Trailer Rally. The Rally runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
