One fatality, three injured in two car crash near Plainfield on June 24
The Plainfield Fire Department received a report of a multi-vehicle accident on State Highway 73 near the intersection of Aniwa Rd. shortly after 3:30 pm on June 24. A northbound 2007 Saturn Aura, driven by a 24-year-old Oshkosh man, Brett Baehman, crossed the centerline, colliding head-on with a southbound 2016 Kia Sorento. The driver of the Saturn was flown to a Neenah hospital with serious injuries, while his passenger, a 23-year-old Greendale woman, Ashley Kopcznski, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Waushara County Coroner. The driver of the Kia, a 50-year-old Wautoma man, Pete Fischbach, was taken to a Marshfield hospital via ambulance, while his 55-year-old female passenger, Carol Fischbach, also of Wautoma, was flown to Marshfield Hospital. Both had serious injuries. The accident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol. Responding to the scene were: Plainfield Fire Department, Hancock Fire Department, Wautoma Fire Department, Waushara County EMS, Waushara County Sheriff’s Department, Waushara County Coroner, and Wisconsin State Patrol. Responding to the scene to reconstruct the crash was the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Unit.
