Lady Pioneers defeated in close game with Lady Hornets

The Lady Pioneers went head to head with Wautoma’s Lady Hornets during a Westfield home game on Oct. 15. The close battle made for nail-biting game, but the Lady Pioneers lost in three sets to Wautoma.

The first game worked in favor of the Lady Hornets who stayed up against their opponent. Salina Warren of the Lady Pioneers went all in with a dig, getting the Lady Pioneers up a couple of points in the first half. Harleigh Eagan was a strong player, with an ace serve getting them to 20 – 10. Wautoma won the set 11 – 25.

The second game had Westfield’s home fans stomping, as the Lady Pioneers started with a 5 – 0 lead with serves from Braylee Wolff. The Lady Pioneers kept the momentum going, with a block from Maddie Chapple bringing them up 13 to 5 against the Lady Hornets. Wautoma eventually got the ball, and both teams were passing the ball around their sides of the court for a majority of the game. Things were not looking good for the Lady Hornets until Hattie Bray got Wautoma up from 16 to 22 with her serves and a strong kill. The game was tied 22 to 22 when Wautoma took the win in the last minutes of the game, cutting it close with 25 – 22.

Wautoma took the lead to begin with in the first game, getting 5 – 0 against the Lady Pioneers. Westfield’s Warren jumped high for a block against their opposing team, getting the ball to the home team’s side of the court. Maddie Chappel then got the Pioneers up 8 to 7 with four ace serves. Game three was the most suspenseful of the night, as the it had tied seven times. Westfield relied on some of Wautoma’s serves hitting the net to get the ball, but in the end a block from Hattie Bray got the team’s tied 23 to 23. Wautoma once again took over last second, winning the game 25 to 23. 

Hattie Bray was a star player for the Lady Hornets with three blocks and 15 kills. Harleigh Eagan also did well for Wautoma with 22 assists and 10 ace serves. Ava Stahl also helped with 15 digs.

 

Salina Warren was the star player of the Lady Pioneers during the Westfield home game with two blocks, 11 digs, and two kills. Braylee Wolff had five assists, Maddie Chappell had four ace serves, and Nadia Hoffa had two kills.
