The Wautoma Kiwanis Club welcomed Mark LaMore from Adams Columbia Electric Coop, as the guest speaker at their Sept. 10 morning meeting.
Mark was born and raised in the Wautoma area and also served in Dessert Storm. Mark went to Fox Valley Technical College for five years and has done follow up education in regards to his electrical education.
Mark told members that back in 1943 the first electric lines were installed in Wautoma.
Adams Columbia Electric Coop has 78 full time employees and owns 33 sub stations over 12 counties. 60% of electric lines are installed underground but Mark explained there will always be a need for some lines to be above ground.
Mark also spoke a little about what happens when there are power outages and that teams from Adams Columbia Electric Coop have gone to help with current outages due to the hurricanes down south.
Mark answered many questions from members. A very interesting topic since everyone uses electricity without ever thinking about how it gets to your home or business.
Adams Columbia Electric Coop is also a supporter of the Wautoma Kiwanis iPad for Autism Project.
Currently the Wautoma Kiwanis Club is holding the Thursday, 7 a.m. morning meeting at the member Jeff Stahl’s business, Stahl Celebration and Remembrance Center, on State Road 21/73.
