On Feb. 18, the Wautoma Kiwanis Club welcomed Adam Vaughan, the Athletic Director at Wautoma High School as their guest speaker.

Adam spoke about the challenges running extracurricular activities in the pandemic. Adam stated they have learned and figured out many new ways to do sports since March 2020 when everything shut down.

WIAA sets all the guidelines for all sports in the state that the athletes are required to follow. Adam explained how the six schools in the conference that Wautoma High School belongs to worked together so the rules would all be the same so parents and students would know the rules when games were at these schools. When they played outside the conference rules could be different. For indoor sports they limited two passes per student athletes and for outdoor events they plan on four passes per student athlete.

Spring sports will start on Apr. 19, and go into June. Adam said they are happy they were able to figure out how to offer sports to the students in a safe way to help keep things somewhat normal during the pandemic.

The mask that Adam is wearing is also available to the public to purchase. A way to help the school district is by purchasing a mask by calling 920-787-7112.

The Wautoma Kiwanis Club holds their weekly meetings at Stahl Celebration and Remembrance Center on Thursday mornings at 7 a.m. and guests are always welcome to attend in person or via Zoom.
