Waushara County history buff reports on 1918 pandemic

Subhead

This is not the first pandemic Waushara County has encountered.  The 1918 pandemic impacted our area greatly, with a local newspaper at the time reporting many of the stories about local people and events through 1919.  A podcast episode has been produced to give local insight into that major news story, sprinkled with music from those days.

From the pages of The Hancock News podcaster Gregory Humphrey has researched the way the story played out in the newspaper. Listeners will hear of local people falling ill to the influenza, ‘cures’ that were advertised, deaths reported with often heart-felt obituaries, and how spirits were lifted as the virus waned.

As a former radio broadcaster and history buff, Humphrey has created the podcast to be professionally packaged so to be both informative and entertaining.

Listeners can hear the Doty Land podcast, with this episode “Extra! Extra! Read All About It! 1918 Pandemic As Reported By The Hancock News” wherever you listen to shows.  Apple and Google are two sites where it can be found.

It also can be heard here.   http://dotyland.buzzsprout.com/750500/6022993-extra-extra-read-all-about-it-1918-pandemic-as-reported-by-the-hancock-news
