Jailbreak Marathon this weekend

Subhead

The Jailbreak Marathon is fast approaching.  On Saturday, Sept. 25 the race starts at 6:30 a.m. for the marathoners that opt to start early, and every hour there after until the 5/10k start at 8:30 a.m.

Besides the race there is also a craft sale with nearly two dozen crafters and vendors. The First Responders will be displaying some of their newest technology.  Waushara County’s Sheriff’s Department Canine handlers will be doing K9 Demonstrations. The local animal shelter will be hosting a fundraiser at the Kiwanis Beer stand and they will also be registering your pet for the 5k (If you bring your pet, we ask that you keep them on a leash for everyone’s safety).

The Waushara County 4-H will be providing food and refreshments at the fairgrounds.  They also will be preparing and serving the free community pasta dinner on Friday, Sept. 24 from 4:30 until 7 p.m.

The last thing to discuss is runner safety; there are runners from all over the country coming to Wautoma and it is important to make sure their visit is a memorable one.  Runners will be on the roads from 6:30 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m.  The maps of the course are published on page 4 so you can be aware of where you may encounter runners.

There is also going to be some road closures from the intersection of Chicago Rd. and Fair St. to State Highway 22.  Law Enforcement will assist runners with safe road crossings and traffic control.  Please be courteous to your local law enforcement officers and the participants visiting Waushara County. We want the participants to enjoy a safe event and return for years to come.

This event is possible because of sponsors and volunteers. One person cannot put on such an event without their support. The Jailbreak Marathon would not have been able to return without the support of the committee, sponsors and volunteers.  The First Responders are to be commended for giving up their time to bring their equipment out and displaying it for the public to see.

Waushara County Crime Stoppers sponsors this event, our local DAV is manning most of our water stations, and Sheriff Wally Zuehlke and the Waushara County Sheriff’s Department are very supportive.  They work tirelessly to keep our community safe and their support of the Jailbreak is just one more example of their willingness to go above and beyond to serve the community. All proceeds from the event goes to support the county’s K-9 program.

Whether you a runner or not, come out and show your support for the Jailbreak Marathon, do some Christmas shopping at the craft sale, and enjoy 4-H food. See you there.
