Fatal river accident Jan. 2 on Fox River in Green Lake Co.

On Jan. 2, at 12:30 p.m., the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a 35 year old female who was outdoors with her two dogs near the Fox River off of Huckleberry Road. The subject and the dogs could not be located by the caller.

The female’s hat was located on the ice at the edge of the river near where she had been painting an outdoor scene. Deputy staff and emergency responding units, including a Hovercraft, Drone, rescue boats, all terrain vehicles and rescue divers responded to the scene. A search for the female began.

The rescue efforts were unsuccessful, and the female was located deceased in the river downstream approximately ¾ miles from where the incident began at approximately 2:30 p.m. One of the dogs was rescued by the caller, the other was not recovered.

The incident was responded to by fire/rescue units from Princeton, Berlin, Green Lake, and Markesan. Berlin EMS units, Drone units from Marquette and Green Lake County Sheriff’s Offices responded to the scene as well. The incident remains under investigation by the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
