Updated visitor restrictions due to COVID implemented at ThedaCare locations

Subhead

At ThedaCare, the first priority is the health and wellness of patients, team members and visitors. Every decision made is centered on the people of our communities.

Due to the rising levels of COVID-19 in Northeast and Central Wisconsin, beginning immediately and continuing until further notice, ThedaCare is implementing heightened visitor restrictions to continue caring for our communities, while minimizing the potential for exposure.

Updated restrictions include:

No visitors for COVID positive and non-COVID patients except limited, approved, pre-arranged visitation for end of life. Those situations will pre-arranged through care teams.

No visitors allowed for any other patients.

One parent/guardian is allowed to accompany a minor or a patient with a medical need (intellectual and/or developmental disability or cognitive impairment).

Patients presenting for outpatient care in a hospital or clinic setting are allowed to enter with their minor children, if no alternative. Children must be masked at all times.

All ThedaCare locations will be screening and requiring masks for approved visitors, contractors, and vendors at our entrances. Masks must be worn throughout the entire visit at ThedaCare.

Other details about specific locations:

ThedaCare Hospitals, Clinics and Surgery Centers: •No visitors for COVID positive and non-COVID patients except limited, approved, pre-arranged visitation for end of life. Those situations will pre-arranged through care teams.

•Anyone under the age of 16 is restricted from visiting, except under extreme circumstances.

•For Family Birth Care, visitors will be strictly limited to one essential person throughout the entire stay. No children are allowed.

•Visitors who are coughing or showing signs of illness will be asked to leave the facility.

•Additional restrictions may be imposed based on the clinical status of the patient or provider judgment

The Heritage, Peabody Manor and Juliette Manor:

•No visitors will be allowed, with the exception of those visiting residents who are experiencing a significant change of condition or at the end of life.

•Residents of The Heritage may not visit residents in other areas of the campus.

ThedaCare Emergency Departments:

•Only one parent/guardian allowed to accompany minor or patient with medical need (intellectual and/or developmental disability or cognitive impairment). Visitors should speak with the patient’s clinical team if the patient requires additional assistance.

Regional Cancer Center:

•To allow for patients to have loved ones with them during consultation and follow-up visits, yet limiting the risk associated with having unlimited visitors in our cancer centers, we will be implementing the following:

•If approved, patient can bring one essential visitor for clinic visit with provider.

• No visitors are allowed for scheduled radiation and/or chemotherapy infusion visits.

•If medically necessary (because of intellectual and /or developmental disability or cognitive impairment), one visitor is allowed with patient for radiation therapy or infusion visits. This must be approved by care teams.

ThedaCare understands exceptions may need to be made on a case-by-case basis. While these changes may cause some disruption, know it was made with the utmost concern to protect our patients, staff and community. Family members are encouraged to use other ways to connect with their loved ones through phone or video calls.

If you or a loved one has COVID-19 symptoms that are more than mild and there is an exposure history, please call your primary care clinic to receive treatment advice before deciding to visit a clinic or hospital. You can also call the COVID-19 Community Hotline at 920.830.6877 or visit the online symptom checker at thedacarecovid19.org. This will ensure teams can review your condition and direct you to the right care.

The best way to minimize the spread of illnesses like COVID-19 is to practice every day preventative behaviors including:

Take part in social distancing - a minimum of 6 ft apart between yourself and others who do not reside in the same household as you.

Wear a mask/face covering in public.

Avoid handshakes, hugs and kisses.

Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Frequently clean and disinfect common household surfaces.

Avoid people who are sick, stay away from others/stay home if you are sick.

Get your flu shot early.
