The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office as a member of the CORE Team evaluates and makes decisions on the level of notification to the community for the release of sex offenders under Wisconsin Statutes 301.45 and 301.46. Recently the Sheriff’s Office met with the Department of Corrections officials regarding the move of Russell Newbury and Brett Myhre to Green Lake County. Based on a review of the convictions and the status of the offender, the CORE Team has determined that this matter meets the criteria for a Level 3 notification. Russell Newbury will be on probation until Sept. 3 2043 and will be monitored closely by the WI-DOC Division of Community. Russell Newbury will have numerous rules and restrictions to follow including wearing a live tracking GPS unit. The GPS monitoring unit will have exclusion zones setup alerting WI-DOC if there is a violation of the exclusion zones rules. Brett Myhre will be on supervision until Sept. 25, 2030 and will be monitored closely by WI-DOC Division of Community Corrections. Brett Myhre will have numerous rules and restrictions to follow including wearing a live tracking GPS unit. The GPS monitoring unit will have exclusion zones setup alerting WI-DOC if there is a violation of the exclusion zones rules. The CORE Team is encouraging any interested citizens to review the information about this offender and to always remember that the State of Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry has a website so you can obtain information about other sex offenders in your area. The website is www.widocoffenders.org The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the following information pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 301.46(2m) which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a sex offender’s release or change in status when, in the discretion of the agency, the release of information will enhance public safety, awareness and protection. The individuals who appears on this notification has been convicted of a sex offense. Further, their criminal history places them in a classification level, which reflects the potential to re-offend. This offenders have served the sentence imposed on them by the courts. They are NOT wanted by the police at this time. This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public. Sex offenders have always lived in our communities; but it was not until the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement is able to share this information with the community. Citizen abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders will NOT be tolerated. Russell Newbury was found guilty of 3 counts of 1st Degree Sexual Assault of a Child on 01-22-2003 in Washington County. He was released from prison on 01/19/2021.
