Wild Rose School Board approves literature for elective course

The Wild Rose School Board approved novels selected for an elective course during an Aug. 23 meeting.

A young adult literature elective course will involve Nic Stone’s “Dear Martin”, Jodi Picoult’s “Nineteen Minutes”, Elizabeth Acevedo’s “Poet X”, Ruta Sepety’s “Salt to the Sea”, and Neal Schusterman’s “Scythe”. Students will read the books and discuss them in class.

David Clark was appointed to the middle/high school Family Consumer Science Teachers’ position. He brings to the table a unique blend of skills and experiences.

Celia Anita Decker’s “Child Development: Early Stages Through Age 12” was approved for a text for Family Consumer Science. MS/HS Principal Amanda Bronk deemed the book to be “very appropriate for the class,” with the new instructor having had the opportunity to view it.

 

Staffing assignments and the master scheduled for the 2020-21 school year were viewed and approved by the Board.

The staff development and in-service plan was presented and approved.

A revision to a Board Policy involving Section 3: Student Personnel, 3.10 – Title IX – Student Grievance Procedure was approved with an exclusion.

Student handbooks were considered for the 2020-21 school year, and approved with some updated items.

Handbooks for the Wild Rose Educational Association Teachers and Wild Rose Educational Support Per-sonnel were discussed, with some discussion topics being brought up for the staff. Revisions were otherwise approved.

District Administrator Craig Hayes reported that facility preparations for the soon-to-be new school year are “moving along.” He also mentioned the continuance of his working with the reopening committee.

 

The next Board meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, with the first meeting in Sept. taking place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, the 10th.
