In Al-Anon we have a monthly magazine named, “The Forum.” Members write in and share their experiences, strengths and hope. We can share our lives living with problem drinking and the problems that come about do to it and my reactions to it.

This month, the pamphlet titled, “What do you do about the alcoholic’s drinking?” was featured on one of the pages. It reminded me of my first Al-Anon meeting. I saw that pamphlet and I knew I had to have it. That would tell me what to do. Or so I thought, I read it as soon as I got home.

Here are just a few lines that told of my life. Made excuses for the drinking. Begged them not to drive drunk. Walked on eggshells around them. Worried over them, cried over them. Gave them the silent treatment. Prayed they would quit drinking, prayed they would drink themselves to death. Hoped they would break their necks before we did it for them.

You can find help and hope at Al-Anon. Come to an Al-Anon meeting. Maybe you have been to a meeting and said it wasn’t for you. It did not take me one drunken episode for me to get that upset that I was ready to leave. Just give it six meetings and then decide if it is for you.

We meet every Monday at noon at Hope Lutheran Church, Wautoma, and every Tuesday in the CAPsell building on Main St.,Wautoma, at 6:30 p.m. Give it some thought.
