Accidents reported in Waushara County

08/01/2020: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 6:30 p.m. in a parking lot in the Village of Plainfield. The deputy responded to a single vehicle property damage accident and found that Robert Eggers, 51, Wild Rose, had turned right out of a parking stall and did not observe a large pole in the space next to him. Eggers struck the pole, causing damage to the passenger side of the vehicle. Deputy identified operator by a valid license as the registered owner. Eggers was able to drive the vehicle away from the scene.

08/01/2020: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 7:53 p.m. on CTHH southbound in the Town of Poy Sippi. Stanley Velie, 68, Oshkosh, was traveling with a motorcycle on County Road H negotiating a curve to the south as it was traveling southbound just after 34th Avenue. The motorcycle drove off the roadway and into taller grass and water. The motorcycle sustained very minor damage to its rear view mirror. Velie was transported by EMS to ThedaCare Neenah for minor neck pain.

08/07/2020: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 11:30 p.m. in a parking lot in the Town of Marion. Deputy responded to a hit and run property damage accident and found that Keri Dowen, 38, Plainfield, was legally parked in a parking lot and was struck by an unknown driver in an unknown manner. The unknown driver left the scene. Dowen later got done working and came out to find her vehicle damaged and then contacted the police.

08/11/2020: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 7:04 a.m. in a parking lot, in the Town of Dakota. The property damage accident was reported after the fact. Wendy Wasielewski, 61, Wautoma, came to the sheriff’s office and reported that she was at the Waushara Country Club when her car was hit. She was driving through the parking lot when Alan Mielke, 89, Wautoma, pulled into a parking stall, then backed out while Wasielewski was driving past. Mielke contacted her in the rear driver side door. Parties involved had traded information and after contacting Mielke on August 15, his vehicle was already repaired. He also confirmed Wasielewski’s account of the accident.

08/11/2020: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 5:50 p.m. on CTHE southbound, in the Town of Warren. Justin Sertle, 29, Redgranite, was traveling southbound on his motorcycle on County Road E and failed to negotiate a curve to the left and ran off the roadway at apex of curve, and entered into the west ditch. He impacted the driveway embankment at N1229 County Road E, went airborne, and then overturned numerous times, ejecting from the motorcycle. Witness, Gregory Holman, on the motorcycle behind Sertle, stated that Sertle was maybe going 45 miles per hour, and a northbound auto pushed him to the outside of the curve. Sertle was loaded into the ambulance and was taken to the ThedaCare Berlin Hospital prior to the Deputy’s arrival. At ThedaCare, Sertle stated he had two beers, and was southbound coming into the curve to fast, going around 85 before the curve and slowing down, down-shifting, got off on the gravel and grass, and was upright until hitting the driveway and the rear of the bike kicked up. Sertle was not wearing a helmet, just sunglasses. There was visible injury to the head and Sertle stated his left shoulder and leg hurt bad. The motorcycle was not registered in his name, there was no insurance on the bike, and hedoes not hold a valid motorcycle license nor instructional permit. There was no other traffic on the road.

08/11/2020: A three-vehicle accident occurred at 5:42 p.m. on STH21 westbound, in the Town of Wautoma. Matthew Leusink, 31, Delavan, was traveling westbound on STH 21 and slowed down due to a flock of turkeys crossing the road. David Martin, 57, Coloma, was traveling behind him and also started to slow down. Jordan Schmidt, 18, Wautoma, was behind Martin and did not immediately notice Leusink and Martin slowing down. As Schmidt attempted to slow down, the front of his vehicle collided with the rear of Martin causing minor damage.

08/14/2020: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 3:13 p.m. in a parking lot, in the Town of Poy Sippi. Jessica Ramirez, 20, Poy Sippi, had pulled through the gas pumps when realizing the gas door was on the passenger side. Ramirez was backing up to align with the pumps on the passenger side and then contacted Terry Lippert, 69, Poy Sippi, that was pulling away from the pumps. Ramirez was cited for operating without insurance.

08/14/2020: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 5:12 p.m. on Waupaca St/STH22 northbound, in the Town of Wautoma. Robert Greener, 78, Wild Rose, was traveling northbound on Highway 22 when his steering went out and he lost control, going off the roadway. He went into the ditch on the east side of the roadway. Greener then drove into a road sign reading “Wild Rose 8”. He continued further up the ditch and came to a stop. There was debris from the road sign, which was tagged.

08/13/2020: At 9:22 p.m., Carolyn Sharp, 24, Redgranite, on STH21, Eastbound, Town of Marion.
