New and low-cost options for health insurance coverage are here

Family Health La Clinica community health center offers free help with health insurance sign-ups, and the chance to get a new plan is on the way starting February 15th. Plan rates are more than three percent lower on average than in the previous year. To take advantage of lower rates, you can shop around for plans during the new open enrollment period through May 15.

Open enrollment is when people can sign up for a health insurance plan through HealthCare.gov or an agent. Those who do not have insurance or do not like their current plan can explore options through the Marketplace to find a plan that fits their needs and budget. “You now have another chance to choose an insurance plan that meets your needs,” says Maria Lisius, Patient Access Manager at Family Health La Clinica. “Getting covered means better access to care and protection for serious medical needs. Signing up now is good for your health and your wallet.”

Insurance options across the state have grown, and costs are going down, with rates lower in 2021 than in recent years. People who already bought a plan through an agent or HealthCare.gov should take a second look at the options for 2021. “We often don’t think about health insurance until it is time to use it,” adds Maria Lisius. “But getting covered should be the first thing on everyone’s to-do list. Finding the right plan means you’ll have access to a doctor or medicine if you ever need it. There are low-cost and no-cost plans available on HealthCare.gov. So even if you didn’t find a plan that met your needs before, it’s time to take a second look.”
