Wild Rose School Board approves spring athletics

Subhead

The Wild Rose School Board approved personnel appointments during a March 11 meeting.

Coalter Hansen will be the assistant track coach for the high school teams, and Paul Roemer will serve as a volunteer track coach for the high school teams as he has in the past.

The middle and high school spring co-curricular activities were discussed and approved by the Board. The WIAA had drawn up a long list of recommended protocols to follow during the COVID-19 pandemic to help reduce and prevent COVID cases from occurring during practices/training and competitions. This includes limiting spectators, social distancing, and masking.

The Board received an update on how the school year has been progressing during the pandemic. District Administrator Craig Hayes stated that the COVID cases/quarantine “numbers have drastically come down.” This includes the county as well as the school district. Staff members have basically received their first dose of the vaccine, with the second dose to be administered in early April. COVID Credit Recovery Funding will be used for what they’re intended for in the school district.

A leave of absence request from Ben Eichmann was approved. The request was originally approved for last year, but Eichmann was unable to use the leave because of the pandemic.

The Board went on to approve the CESA3 contract for the 2021-2022 school year at a cost of $695,701.37.

Staffing option and course offerings for the middle and high school, as well as staffing options for the elementary were approved for the 2021-22 school year.

During the district administrator’s report, it was recommended that keeping things as they are in the fitness center instead of bringing equipment back out for use was best for the remainder of the school year. Tara Anderson had again asked if some of the equipment could be brought back.

Craig Hayes had also pointed out that there could be several staff members retiring at the end of this school year.

The next Board meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 25. The first meeting in April will be on the 8th immediately after the 7 p.m. Scholarship Foundation meeting.
