Wild Rose School Board approves proposed music department trip

The Wild Rose School Board approved a proposed music dept. trip during a Nov. 11 meeting.

The proposed trip through Lamers will take about 35 students and chaperones to various areas in Gettysburg, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore from March 20-26 in 2022. Some areas of the trip require the wearing of facemasks, while Lamers does not require masks on the bus. Arrangements for anyone who may get sick while on the trip can be worked out accordingly. There is concern over not being able to conduct door-to-door fundraising for the trip because of possible COVID issues.

Board member Chris Sorenson pointed out that his “past experiences chaperoning such trips, the trips can prove to be once in a lifetime experiences for the kids, and I’d like to see the kids be able to take the trip.” He feels that if the community is aware of fundraising issues, people could very well contribute towards the trip without a particular fundraiser. Other Board members expressed their wishes for seeing the kids go on such trips as well, that it would be good for them. Details will continue to be worked out to help make the trip possible.

In other business the Board approved the appointment of Jacob Lund as a volunteer assistant boys basketball coach.

Leave of absence requests from Jaime Wagner and Nicole Smykal were approved by the Board.

Administration salaries for the 2021-22 school year which were discussed in closed session during the last Board meeting have now been approved with designated increases.

The Board approved increasing adult meal prices for breakfast and lunch to coincide with the USDA ruling for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year.

The Board also approved the gift of $1,327.96 from the Spirit Pump located at the Wild Rose C-Store, and a gift of $400 from the Wild Rose Presbyterian Church’s Be Hope Fund.

Changes to the course selection guide were approved by the Board.

An update on the progress of the current school year was given. It was pointed out that very few students are currently under quarantine, and will be back in school soon, and vaccines for youths are available. “We want to do the best thing for everyone in making the best decision for the district,” stated District Administrator Craig Hayes.
