Wild Rose School Board approves COVID protocols

Subhead

During an Oct. 26 meeting the Wild Rose School Board approved the reduction of COVID protocols.

An update on how the school year has been progressing, it was pointed out that the COVID cases and quarantines have been decreasing, therefore, a reduction in quarantine time can be considered.

Parent Tara Anderson continued to ask the Board if it would reconsider the protocols the district had been using, pointing out that the “students’ childhoods are being taken from them.” She also wanted to know if the Board discusses items the public addressed with them outside of the meeting. She was assured that it does not happen.

After all things were considered the Board approved moving to a seven day quarantine with a negative test after having close contact with a COVID positive person. The county health dept. and district lawyer supported this method, and the WIAA recommended a seven day quarantine period for athletic participation as well.

In other business the Board received a community survey presentation by School Perceptions. Community surveys had gone out earlier in the fall regarding possible improvement projects for the district facilities, asking for the community’s input regarding such projects. The goal of survey being returned had been exceeded, and all indications were favorable for the district to proceed with plans.

It was recommended to draw up a referendum for the April 5, 2022 election, and it was pointed out that the projects would not start immediately, that care will be taken to keep on track with costs, finalizing scopes, and verifying the budget.

With equalization values being in, a decrease in supplies, a decrease of official fees/cancelled events, and the elimination of a school bus purchase, the 2021-2022 school budget is said to be balanced.

The appointment of Chris Rosin as a volunteer high quiz bowl coach was approved by the Board.

The Board went on to consider salaries for the 2021-2022 school year. Proposed salaries were approved for the Wild Rose Educational Association, the Support Staff on a Salary Schedule, and other Support Staff members. Administrative salaries were discussed during a closed session.

The next Board meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, possibly 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, and Thursday, Dec. 9 immediately following the 7 p.m. Scholarship Foundation meeting.
