The Board discussed a request from Louisiana Christian University to use a variation of the school logo and mascot. The district attorney and the 1992 Wild Rose graduate who developed the logo several years ago and donated it to the Wild Rose School District were consulted. The logo developer stated that the school district was the sole owner of the logo and can decide what to do in this particular situation.

It was the attorney and district administrator Craig Hayes’ recommendation to move forward and allow the University to use the variation of the Wild Rose School District’s logo with the University’s colors, but have the University develop legal papers which state that Wild Rose owns legal rights to the logo, no one else can use it or make Wild Rose stop using it, and the University needs to pay the legal fees, compensating the Wild Rose District.

The Class of 2022 song, motto, colors, and flower were considered and approved by the Board.

Tara Anderson spoke to the Board regarding the length of basketball shorts for middle school athletes. Some athletes are just too short for the length of the shorts. The matter will be taken care of as best as possible.

Anderson had also asked why she wasn’t able to attend a Board meeting virtually in the recent past when Board members are allowed. She was informed that Board members are essential to the meetings, and if they were virtual it was because there was a good reason why they couldn’t attend any other way. Audience members are given an opportunity to attend meetings in person.

A report on the progress of the school year brought news that a possible third COVID protocol can be considered, partnering with Nova Labs. The new Spanish teacher has arrived in the area. The district continues working through staffing needs, and script cards will be presented to staff members.

During the district administrator’s report, it was pointed out that Chris Rosin, Chris Sorenson, and Sandy Rockwood will be up for re-election in April. A request to rent the auditorium in the spring for the 4-H’s Festival of the Arts was approved by the Board.
