Village of Redgranite accepts five nominations for Trustees

Subhead

The Village of Redgranite held a Caucus before their regular board meeting on Jan. 19. Nominations were made for Village President and the three open positions for Village Trustees. Those nominated on the ballot will be on the ballot for the spring election and will take office on the third Tuesday in April.

Fred Eichman, Sandy Lyles, and Joan Kapp will be running for their expired positions once again. Two new candidates for the position were nominated as well, including Carmen Roehl and Laurie Oltesvig.

The board then went on call their regular meeting to order at 7 p.m. Village President Belinda Pasarelli called in Village Attorney Daniel Sondalle for discussion on the plowing of Lafayette Street. Joan Kapp recently has made complaints regarding the plowing of the street, which resulted in a request of a change in the plow truck driver.

The board then watched police footage of the night in question. A use of vulgar language and false accusations were showed in the footage after the plow came through the street. “It’s a village street that we have been plowing for decades,” stated Sondalle. “It should be expected that snow will get in your driveway when the plow comes through, you just need to shovel again. The village also acknowledged that any grass that is torn up in result of plowing is patched up in the Spring. “All of the roads are plowed the same way and have been for years,” pointed out board member Fred Eichman. Kapp refused to comment on the subject when acknowledged. Without knowing the problem in full, Sondalle advised the board that since it is their legal right to plow the Village owned road, they should continue to do so.

Members of the board then discussed a policy in regards to the COVID-19 vaccine. Many were in agreement that employees should not be forced to do anything against their will with the touchy subject. When put up for vote, it was decided that they will not make the vaccination mandatory for their employees. Redgranite Police Chief Kyle Tarr told the board that he and another officer would be receiving the vaccine on Jan. 21.

In other business, the board approved:

•MSA Invoice #592020 #9 - $9,890.90.

•The sale of old unused radios and equipment

•The 2020 Wautoma Area Municipal Court Costs - $15,869.98, which included a discussion on the possibility to switching back to Circuit Court.

•The Midwest Meter Partner Support Plus for $2,500.

•Obtaining quotes for concrete/back top at the sewer plant.

•An Operator’s Licen-se for Rebecca Krebsback (Sanicker’s Pub)

The next regular monthly meeting for the Village of Redgranite Trustees will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.
