Redgranite Village Board plans special meeting to discuss the future of Redgranite’s Labor Day Celebration

A special meeting to discuss Redgranite’s Labor Day Festival was set for Saturday, March 5 at 10 a.m. during the Redgranite Village Board meeting on Feb. 15.

Redgranite’s Labor Day Festival is the biggest event of the year for the village, with visitors traveling from across the state for the traditional festivities. The Redgranite Advancement Association (RAA) takes on the planning and organization of the annual event. In current years membership in the RAA has unfortunately decreased due to lack of new members.

With that said, RAA President Brenda Mastricola requested that the Redgranite Village Board host a meeting to discuss the future of the Labor Day Festival as the RAA no longer has enough members to support all of the preparation that goes into the event. Village Board President Belinda Passarelli requested that the board host a special meeting to discuss the festival with Mastricola along with local business owners to try to make a plan for the upcoming year. A special meeting will be held on Saturday, March 5 at 10 a.m. at the Redgranite Village Hall and residents are encouraged to attend as well.

The board went on to discuss the State Trust Fund loan for the new public works trucks. During the Jan. 18 meeting a lengthy discussion was held on the loan options for a new snowplow truck and equipment. Board members decided that in order to save on interest and have the loan be paid off sooner that the five year loan will be applied for.

A request to increase the charge to residents for snow shoveling their sidewalks was brought to the board in the hopes of getting residents to shovel their sidewalks according to the village ordinance. Currently residents are charged $45 when a village employee is called out to shovel along with being issued a citation. It was reported that a recent shoveling job took around two hours as the snow had hardened from the past two snowfalls. The fee will be increased to $75 minimum per hour along with a $15 small tool charge to encourage residents to follow the snow shoveling ordinance.
