Redgranite approves applying for USDA grant for new police vehicle

Subhead

At a special Redgranite Village Board meeting on May 10, the board approved replacing an older police vehicle by applying for a USDA Community Facilities Development grant for $38,000.  After further discussion, the board agreed that $33,000 from the vehicle replacement fund would also be used to purchase the vehicle, as the total cost would likely be approximately $70,000.  It was noted that the special board meeting was required in order to get the USDA grant application submitted.

The board also approved a request from the Wisconsin DNR to place a kiosk at the Redgranite Quarry, near the east side parking lot. DNR Fisheries Technician Scott Bunde attended the meeting and told the council that the DNR is performing a creel survey on the trout stocked in artificial bodies of water, such as the Redgranite Quarry, and lakes, specifically Johns Lake, Spring Lake, Hartford Lake (near Marl Lake) in Waushara County and Wood Lake in Marquette County.  The kiosks will contain some information, as well as a questionnaire, that anglers will hopefully complete.  The DNR would use the information to assess angler usage, angler success, and if stocking should continue.  The kiosk would remain in place from May until the end of the gamefish fishing season in March of 2023.

After discussion, the board also approved Police Chief Kyle Tarr requesting the Redgranite Village Inn to voluntarily surrender its liquor license.  The Department of Revenue Compliance recently issued a Revocation of the Seller’s Permit for the business.  The liquor license is “owned” by the village; therefore, the village could wait until the annual renewal period in July and not renew it or could ask the business to voluntarily surrender it now in case another business opens up in Redgranite and wants a liquor license prior to July.

The next Redgranite Village Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, at 7:00 p.m. at the municipal building.
