Parents address concerns to Wild Rose School Board

Subhead

The Wild Rose School Board was met with some concerned parents at an Oct. 14 meeting.

The subject relating to quarantining healthy students because of close contact with a COVID positive student, but the close contact had occurred a number of days before the COVID positive students were diagnosed, and the healthy students’ parents were notified. In the meantime, some seniors have to miss their final competition on parents/senior night because they were notified last minute that they have to be quarantined. There have been to many inconsistencies. Someone even mentioned that its’ not just the school staff that’s been working extra hard this school year, but that parents and families are also struggling during the quarantines, etc.

When the Board was to discuss the current school year later on, the Board acknowledged the fact that families are struggling as well one way or another because of the COVID/quarantining situations. The reason for the inconsistencies is because the students, etc., may have to wait at least a couple of days before getting tested professionally with appointments. The results aren’t received by the school right away, but the school does act upon them as soon as they get them, and it’s unfortunate that some students/families are affected as well.

The majority of COVID cases come from the community with a little being transmitted in school. The school district is still doing the best it can, and doesn’t see the need to change protocols at this time – the trends are stabilizing.

In other business the board approved the resignation of Josh Erickson as a middle school boys basketball coach, and the appointment of Wes Alix to replace him.

A request for Gavin Dalle Ave to graduate after the first semester of his senior year was approved.

The Board went on to approve one early college credit program application, and three start college now applications.

Two leave of absence requests from Liz Dohr were approved.

The board approved a $1,000 donation from Evergreen Campsites and Resort to be used for Tech Ed program, and a $2,000 donation from the Wild Rose Presbyterian Church Be Hope Fund.

Elementary principal Matt Wilbert presented the elementary safety report.

District Administrator Craig Hayes pointed out that the purchase of a bus will be taken out of the 2021-2022 school year budget.

During the MS/HS principal’s report Amanda Bronk stated she put out a challenge for the school district’s raising funds for the HEROES program this school year. If the funding doubles what was raised last year she’ll have her head shaved.
